Reading Specialist Certification

Advance your reading career by enhancing your literacy leadership and coaching skills in UW-Stout’s 100% online Reading Specialist Certification program. This program is designed for academic/instructional coaches, reading teachers and interventionists in K-12 environments, Title I teachers, RTI coordinators, and literacy coaches.

The Reading Specialist Certification prepares licensed educators for advanced literacy leadership roles in K–12 schools. The program emphasizes applied literacy assessment, data-driven intervention, instructional coaching, and program evaluation to support diverse learners and classroom teachers. Aligned with Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction standards, coursework develops the expertise needed to lead school- and district-level literacy initiatives and improve reading achievement systemically.

Graduates are prepared for roles such as Reading Specialist, Literacy Coach, Title I Literacy Coordinator, and District Literacy Leader. The certification supports advancement into instructional leadership positions focused on assessment, intervention, and school-wide literacy improvement initiatives.
